تم تصنيع سيارة Penti في ألمانيا الشرقية بواسطة شركة Welta في أواخر الخمسينيات من القرن العشرين. وكانت متوفرة بجسم أبيض أو أحمر أو أسود أو أزرق.
تم تطوير الكاميرا بواسطة Walter Henning في شركة VEB Zeiss Icon منذ عام 1956 ودخلت الإنتاج باسم Welta Orix في أبريل 1958 في مصنع VEB Welta Kamera Werke (تمت إعادة تسميته إلى VEB Prüfgerätewerk Medingen في عام 1960)، حيث كانت الشركة الأم VEB Zeiss Ikon تفتقر إلى القدرة الإنتاجية الكافية.
